1840's Style Day Wear The skirt is a Dicken's Day Skirt. These skirts were gathered completely around the waist as opposed to the later styles that had flat fronts and gathered in the back. A red wool skirt, gathered around the entire waist, back hook-and-eye closure. Typical of the styles of the 1840's. Wear this one with one or more flounced petticoats (cotton, flannel, or quilted for warmth, if you wish to be really authentic) but no hoop crinoline...they came later in about the mid-1850's. The cape is elbow length, in gray wool with red trim to match the red skirt. Look for more details on our Gallery Page |
